Activity Description
The physicians of Anesthesiology and Recovery Department provide preoperative assessment, anesthesia and postoperative pain control services to all patients of all ages at the Barzilai Medical Center. Anesthesia is performed in the major operating theatre, where major and urgent surgeries are performed, at the surgical daycare unit for short and ambulatory surgeries and in the delivery room. Special interest is given to obstetric anesthesia in which anesthesiologists provide 24 hours care during labor and anesthesia in the operating room at the delivery room. In view of the extensive activities at the radiology department and the catheterization laboratory, anesthesiologists are called frequently to provide short anesthesias for special procedures. In addition, anesthesiologists supervise patients undergoing electro-convulsive therapy at the psychiatry department. At the end of each operation patients are transferred to the well equipped recovery unit for close supervision. Postoperative pain control using patient controlled analgesia systems (PCA) is performed also in the surgical and orthopedic departments under the supervision of the anesthesiologists. Ambulatory patients who suffer from chronic pain are treated at the outpatient pain clinic.
