Firefighting drill in the operating theatre

The management of the hospital conducts every year several types of drills in different parts of the departments and units of the medical center in order to preserve and upgrade the staff's knowledge in dealing with emergency situations, mass casualties and catastrophes.

The year 2022 was the year of drills in firefighting. In each department and unit there is a closet where all the equipment for extinguishing fire is stored. All the staff of the department should be familiar with the equipment and how to use it.

During November 2022 firefighting drill was conducted in the operating theatre. Different inflammable gases, alcohol and cautery machines are used during surgery. The medical staff must work carefully so that nothing comes into contact with each other. However, there have been cases of fire outbreaks inside the operating theatre. The Israeli Ministry of Health published strict instructions for dealing with inflammable materials in the operating theatre.

On the 22nd of December 2022 firefighting drill was performed in the operating theatre. The drill was led by the fire safety officer Mr. Uri Peretz. The staff had to act quickly to extinguish an imaginary fire inside an operating room. The staff acted according to the drills and the fire safety officer summarized that the drill was excellent and that the staff showed great knowledge and capability to deal with fire.
