Molecular Diagnosis
Molecular diagnosis of infective agents from blood and other body fluids is based on extraction of nucleic acids of pathogens and examining them using the Real Time PCR method. The results assist the physicians to make the exact diagnosis and prescribe the right drug.
The most common organisms tested by the molecular laboratory are:
ü Herpes virus from lesions, body fluids and cerebrospinal fluid.
ü Respiratory viruses
ü Enteroviruses from cerebrospinal fluid and the respiratory system.
ü Pertussis bacterium in infants.
ü Sexually transmitted diseases: gonorrhea and chlamydia
ü Hepatitis viruses (A, B, C)
ü HIV load.
